Dave is a qualified accountant holding a Bachelor of Business from Charles Sturt University. He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (CA). Dave has worked as a public accountant in rural and regional Australia, as well as in the United Kingdom. Dave advises individuals and business clients as well as community based not for profit organisations in all aspects of business development, taxation, finance, and systems development. Dave has a special interest in self managed superannuation and not for profit organisations.

Background
Dave was introduced early in his career to the importance of the key attributes of quality, professionalism, integrity, and the delivery of value. He decided that membership of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (CA) was the best pathway to expand his knowledge base and maximise his career opportunities.

Dave completed the CA Professional Year (PY) program in 1995. The CA program consists of core study modules covering financial reporting, taxation, audit, business management, superannuation, business leadership and ethics and corporate governance and accountability. Dave also chose to complete elective modules in advanced taxation and information systems.

Following completion of the CA program, Dave undertook active mentoring by an experienced CA to enable the technical knowledge learned in his formal study to be used effectively to deliver meaningful solutions to clients. Since this time Dave has gained an extensive range of experience in public practice as a Chartered Accountant and in numerous regional and rural locations throughout NSW and the ACT as well as in roles within the United Kingdom. This range of experience has provided Dave with an broad technical knowledge base and contributed significantly to his ability to deliver high quality accounting services that demonstrate his commitment to professionalism, integrity and provision of value to his clients.

In addition to his extensive Australian commercial experience, Dave has also taken the opportunity to work in the United Kingdom with Macmillan Cancer Support, as well as one of the world’s biggest accounting firms Coopers & Lybrand. This exposure to world’s best practice accounting principles has given Dave exposure that he incorporates when advising commercial and not-for-profit clients in relation to contemporary accounting, business development, as well as systems review.

In 2006, Dave completed the Public Practice Program of the Institute of Chartered accountants. This program facilitates knowledge of contemporary business leadership and innovative business practices with the aim of ensuring that participants can provide advice and leadership to clients that allows them to deal with the dynamic market faced by businesses today.

Dave is committed to developing and improving his knowledge and skills and regularly attends professional development seminars and conferences that enhance his skills in ensuring that he delivers professional services to his clients that are based on the latest developments in practice, law and business.

Special Interests

Self Managed Superannuation Funds - Dave has been advising both clients and other accountants in this specialist area for over 13 years. While being the most heavily regulated structure to run, self managed superannuation provides significant tax minimisation opportunities that are simply not available anywhere else and gives flexibility to those who want to do more than commercial superannuation allows. However, there are many pitfalls to be avoided with superannuation funds and the golden rule with superannuation is talk to an experienced advisor before you do anything. Dave can provide this advice to both existing and new clients.

Not for profit organisations – Dave has always believed in the need to support community organisations to build social capital. In working with and volunteering for not for profit community organisations, Dave recognised that there is a very broad range of issues to be carefully navigated in order to get the most benefit for the community. Many organisations are being led by groups of committed volunteers who are great at providing services, but need help when it comes to budgeting, taxation, governance, risk management and financial reporting. It is in these areas that Dave is able to apply his experience to support these community groups.
