CPI figure to 31 March 2007 reported by RBA

Australia's Reserve Bank has reported Australia's CPI figure for the March quarter 2006 to the March quarter 2007 as 2.4%.

 The Australian Bureau of Statistics provided the following analysis in relation to the figure:

The most significant price rises this quarter were for pharmaceuticals (+12.8%), house purchases (+1.0%), secondary education fees (+7.1%) and rent (+1.4%). The most significant offsetting price decreases were fruit (-33.8%), with banana prices returning to the levels of March quarter 2006, furniture (-3.3%), overseas holiday travel and accommodation (-2.2%) and audio, visual and computing equipment (-2.4%).
